Chatterley Whitfield Colliery, Hanley

The most comprehensive survival of a deep mine site in England with a range of surviving structures and buildings unequalled in any other coalfield site, former or surviving, in Britain. 1750 coal was first extracted, remaining in production until March 1977. it became the Chatterley Whitfield Mining Museum until liquidated when the site was handed back to Stoke-on-Trent City Council in 1994.
